Dating Sucks

  So anyone that's still in the dating pool pretty much after the age of 25 knows that dating just sucks.  The busier we get with life and careers and adulting, many of us are basically forced to turn to the dark world (mostly kidding) of online dating.  Don't get me wrong, online dating has its perks.  For one, you're not being set up blindly by your well meaning but often clueless friends.  (I've been on some rough blind dates to say the least.) It gives you a chance to weed out people that wouldn't be a good match with the way people have to fill out profiles.  And the anonymity makes it easy to write off and block the weirdos quickly if need be.

 Of course, there are drawbacks.  Oh my God, are there drawbacks.  They say online dating brings out the crazies, and that is definitely true.  Sometimes people on these websites are so desperate to find a date or whatnont, they are less than forthcoming with who they really are.  But really, that's all dating when you think about it.  I've really heard some horror stories about people meeting after a certain amount of time they've spent talking and texting and it turns out the person is not at all what they had portrayed. Cue
 the term "catfish."  Thankfully, I've never been catfished but I've heard some awful stories as well as of course seen the show on MTV.


I think what sucks most about dating are the games.  So many people play games and it is beyond frustrating to say the least.  It seems as though a lot of people out there are looking for just a quick hookup and if that's your deal, so be it, no judgment, but at least be upfront about it for those of us who are trying to find more than just a body to warm our beds for an hour. 

Lastly, I truly believe social media has made things so much harder than it needs to be.  So many of us are more concerned about how we look on Facebook or Instagram with our significant other that we forget about that person.  We're more concerned with likes and comments than anything else. It also makes it feel like the whole world has access to something that for the most part, should be private. People are able to weigh in on something they don't even have all the details of. 

 Bottom line, dating is just hard. It's hard, confusing and often times very frustrating.  So I wish everyone out there that's in the same boat, the very best of luck! Solidarity my friends!

Finding my Calling

  Today's world is no doubt full of chaos and uncertainty.  Things are changing every day and sometimes moment to moment.  It's hard to draw the line between being informed and being consumed.  And it's hard not to become sucked into the panic of everything.  But if there's one thing the pandemic has reinforced for me, it's my decision on what to do with my life.   Let me rewind a bit.  Last year when I traveled to Alaska for Amanda's wedding, I did a lot of soul searching (it's easy to do in that kind of scenery.)  At that point, I knew I wanted to go back to school but I was unsure of exactly what for.  I thought about social work or something along those lines.  But in my heart, I knew that was the safe choice.  There was another road I'd thought of for years but never really had the courage to even say it out loud.  That road leads to becoming a physician.  But I always thought it was just too much; too long, too mon...

My little girl

Six years ago this month I should have welcomed my first born into the world. I should have been making a birth plan and finalizing a nursery. I should have had my world changed forever. Well, at least the last part did happen, but not in the way I expected. Rewind about 8 months or so prior to that,  May 2012. On an ordinary spring day I took the advice of my now ex-husband and took a pregnancy test. I was shocked to see the "pregnant" result not even two minutes after taking it. To this day I still almost question whether or not it was immaculate conception. I was stuck in a dead, loveless, toxic marriage. Deep down, we despised each other. The deer in headlights look on my ex-husband's face when I handed him the positive test was one of the last reactions I wanted to see.
